Dr Todd’s sex crime in Emmerdale leaves Vanessa’s world in utter turmoil
The police were in town during Emmerdale this evening. Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) feared they had arrived to see him after the discovery that his cousin Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) is a copper, but the car sped past Emmerdale Farm and went into the village instead.
DS Reid (Angela Lonsdale) and her colleague had pulled up outside Tug Ghyll. They wanted to speak to Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) as part of their investigation into Doctor Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker).
After Caitlin sexually assaulted Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), she was arrested by Reid and questioned. Caitlin said that the sex she had with Charity was consensual, and because of the lack of physical evidence as well, it meant she was released shortly after the interview.
Charity spent time keeping this a secret from her loved ones, but eventually told Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) as the trauma was eating away at her.
She also revealed to her partner that baby Leyla is her child, and that Caitlin had been blackmailing her over this information. Mackenzie encouraged Charity to tell DS Reid about the blackmail, believing it could help the investigation.
Charity did this, but learnt from Reid that the coercion would be treated as a seperate case, rather than within the sexual assault one.
To aid with building up a picture of Doctor Todd, DS Reid decided to speak with Vanessa, Todd’s ex-girlfriend.
At Tug Ghyll, she explained that an allegation had been made against Caitlin, but wasn’t able to reveal any details.
Once the conversation had ended, Vanessa hot footed it over to the shop, believing that Doctor Todd had been questioned by the police in line with Jacob Sugden’s (Joe-Warren Plant) claims that she had been bullying him.
With Vanessa being asked about her relationship with Dr Todd, Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) wondered if the allegation made against her was related to something other than Jacob’s ordeal.
Listening in on this was Charity, who reacted to the comments in a way that left Vanessa curious.
At Jacobs Fold, Vanessa asked Charity if Caitlin did something to her, and the look on Charity’s face was more than enough confirmation.
Charity told Vanessa about the sexual assault, and was supported a great deal by her ex.
Reeling in the shock of it all, Vanessa couldn’t believe that she had spent all of this time completely oblivious as to what Doctor Todd is really like.
We know that Caitlin won’t go to prison for the crimes she’s committed against Charity, as a flashforward has confirmed the character will be murdered by someone.
Will it end up being Vanessa, now she knows the truth about the woman she welcomed into her home?
