Suspicions increase in Emmerdale as Serena digs for the truth of Nate’s murder

Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) causes concern in Emmerdale soon as she starts fishing for information on a murder that took place a couple of years ago.
Newcomer Serena arrived last week, and immediately made an impact on fans thanks to the kindness she showed Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins).
Serena was travelling in the area and needed to go to the loo, but she managed to startle Charity due to the noise she was making in the bushes.
At the time, Charity had disappeared from the village because she was struggling under the weight of her secrets about Doctor Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) and baby Leyla.
Serena approached Charity, who eventually came to realise that this stranger wasn’t going to hurt her. The two women sat down, and Serena listened carefully as Charity told her about everything that’s been going on.
Afterwards, Serena got in her car and then made her way to Emmerdale. She began connecting with Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill), and introduced herself to the likes of Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) and Claudette Anderson (Flo Wilson).
Because no-one in the village has met this Sugden before, it wasn’t long until topic of conversation turned to John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth), Robert Sugden’s (Ryan Hawley) brother who took pleasure in putting people in danger.
People were curious as to whether Serena knew about everything that John did while he lived in Emmerdale.
Once Serena confirmed that she was fully aware of John’s reign, Sarah believed that she was in town for gossip.
Serena said that wasn’t the case, but upcoming episodes of the ITV soap will suggest otherwise, as she digs for information on what exactly happened to Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter).
After having a chat with Serena about Nate, Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) makes her distrust unknown. Her brother Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) also told Charity that Serena isn’t someone who can be trusted, largely because her last name is Sugden.

Are the siblings right to be worried?
Surely there isn’t a perfectly innocent reason as to why Serena wants the lowdown on the man who was accidentally killed by someone, and then thrown into a lake?
Nate Robinson disappeared from the village in the autumn of 2024. At the time, his loved ones believed he had left for a new job in Shetland.
Time ticked by and slowly, Tracy Shankley (Amy Walsh) and Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) began to wonder why Nate hadn’t contacted them at all. Prior to his vanishing, Nate’s relationships with Tracy and Cain had taken a knock. They knew he had reasons for not wanting to continue speaking with them, but believed he’d still be in contact for his little daughter Frankie.
It was in 2025 that the truth about Nate’s disappearance was confirmed. Viewers discovered that John Sugden had given Nate some medicine after a fight with Cain, but he had a bad reaction to it and d.i.e.d.
John threw Nate’s body in a nearby lake, which was eventually discovered.
The fact that John was responsible for Nate’s death wasn’t revealed until mid 2025.
The resident, introduced in 2024, was killed at the start of this year.
In a particularly poetic twist, John’s life ended the same way Nate’s did – by having a drug injected into him, reacting badly to it, and dying.
