Emmerdale’s Lisa Riley issues update after ‘horrendous’ injury

Emmerdale star Lisa Riley has issued an update after suffering an ‘horrendous’ injury at home.

The Mandy Dingle star was sporting a cast on her wrist when she appeared as a guest panellist on Loose Women last week, alongside GK Barry, Denise Welch and Kaye Adams.

Keen to share the story behind the injury, Lisa revealed that she had slipped off a stool five weeks ago and needed to undergo surgery after landing badly on her hand.

At the time of the injury, Lisa took to Instagram to update her followers, sharing a photo of herself and her surgeon.

In the caption, she heaped praise on the NHS and the hospital for looking after her.

During her appearance on Loose Women, she revealed that she has an upcoming appointment with her specialist to remove her cast, and added that the wound now looks like a dog bite.

Lisa has further to go in terms of treatment, as she explained: ‘Obviously I’m going to have rehab now, and physio as I move forward. It’s been horrendous, I still can’t move anything.’

However, she also confessed that at the time of the injury, her biggest concern was whether or not she’d still be able to fly to New York.

‘They let me travel. I was more worried because I was flying to New York literally four days [after the surgery]. So they’ve put this expandable cast on,’ she pointed out.

As well as making her trip, Lisa has also been able to continue working, as she revealed that Emmerdale writers have managed to work around her cast.

‘They’ve had to write it into Emmerdale as well,’ she said. ‘I don’t drink anymore, but Mandy Dingle will have had a few too many Proseccos!’

Lisa first hit our screens as Mandy in 1995, before departing in 2001. In 2019, she reprised her role and has remained a fan favourite.

She’s had some major stories since her return, including her marriage to Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) and the revelation that Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnosn) wasn’t her biological son.
