Trooping the Colour: Kate Middleton’s ‘warning’ to children George, Charlotte and Louis

Kate Middleton reportedly issued a warning to her children George, Charlotte and Louis at Trooping the Colour in 2023.

On June 18 that year, the royal family was in attendance at the Trooping the Colour ceremony to celebrate the monarch’s birthday.

But proud mum Kate, 43, was reportedly left issuing a warning to her children – and one of them didn’t seem to listen.

For the big day, Kate was joined by Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis as they rode to Buckingham Palace. Prince William and King Charles rode ahead on horseback.

The three kids waved and smiled – but apparently, they received a rather strong warning about their behaviour. According to lip reader Jeremy Freeman speaking to the Daily Star, Kate reportedly told her children: “Do not look behind whilst on the coach.”

However, as the camera panned to the children – Charlotte was said to have defied her mum’s orders. The young royal continued to look behind.

It comes after Prince Louis also melted hearts at the event. Louis dressed similarly to his older brother George for the occasion.

They wore matching navy suits, white shirts and red ties – but Louis sported red shorts while George wore trousers. Charlotte looked smart in a white dress with red trimming.

Riding in the carriage, photos showed Louis holding his nose, pulling faces, pointing at the sky and fiddling with his hair during the carriage ride. Fans anticipated they would be entertained by Louis as soon as he popped up in front of TV cameras.

Trooping the Colour 2025

The event will return this Saturday (June 14) for King Charles’ third birthday parade. Although the king’s birthday is in November, his official birthday parade Trooping the Colour takes place in June due to the better weather in the UK.

However, like last year, the king will ride in a carriage during the event rather than on horseback. It comes after his cancer diagnosis early last year.

In 2023, during his first Trooping the Colour as monarch, Charles took the salute on horseback. It was the first time a monarch had appeared at the parade on horseback since the last time Queen Elizabeth II did so in 1986.

Meanwhile, the Prince and Princess of Wales will likely attend Trooping the Colour with their children this Saturday.

King Charles will of course join his wife Queen Camilla. The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh will also likely attend as well as Princess Anne and her husband Sir Timothy Laurence.
