‘Reason’ King Charles has used a walking stick for recent royal appearances
King Charles has been out and about in recent days, and has been seen with a walking stick.
The king, 76, attended the Royal Windsor Horse Show on Saturday (May 17) before attending the Chelsea Flower Show on Monday (May 19).
For both outings, King Charles was seen using a walking stick. A reason behind this has now seemingly been revealed.
Why is the king using a walking stick?
It is believed that the accessory chosen by the king was simply a traditional walking stick from country fairs, rather than a walking aid.
The king’s late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, was seen using a walking stick in her later years. It was reported she used it to help her mobility.
King Charles has often been seen using a walking stick for various royal engagements. He was pictured in the late 90s and early 2000s walking with one. So it’s nothing new to see him using one recently.
King Charles at the Chelsea Flower Show 2025
On Monday, the king and his wife Queen Camilla stepped out for the Chelsea Flower Show.
They mingled with celebrities, including football legend David Beckham. During the meeting, reports claim that Charles was heard asking after a present for David’s 50th birthday.
David turned 50 on May 2.
It was incredible. Thank you, it was very kind.
The king asked: “Do you understand?”
David reportedly replied: “It was incredible. Thank you, it was very kind.”
Meanwhile, Queen Camilla added: “Nice to see you again, glad you got the roses.”
Latest on King Charles’ health
Since last February, the king’s health has been a topic of conversation. The monarch’s cancer diagnosis was announced and he has been undergoing treatment since.
At the time, the palace said in a statement: “His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.”
In March this year, the king underwent hospital observation due to side effects relating to his cancer treatment.
The monarch was forced to postpone his engagements for the rest of the week, as he worked from his home. However, within days, the king was back to work properly.
Despite still undergoing treatment, King Charles continues with his public duties. He’s set to attend the 2025 Trooping the Colour ceremony in June. The event marks the monarch’s official birthday.
He’ll likely join other senior royals for the occasion, including Camilla, the Prince and Princess of Wales and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.
