Hammer horror for Emmerdale’s Robert as Cain takes violent revenge
Ever since Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) found out that Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) planted the evidence that put her behind bars in Emmerdale, she’s been trying to tell husband Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley).
With his mind clouded by worries of death and impotence, Cain has not been in a place to hear it. Moira’s wrestled with this knowledge herself, and when she found out Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) was the real mastermind, she grabbed a shotgun and marched up to Home Farm.
Joe remains intact, and Cain is still none the wiser about Robert’s involvement. But Moira has always been open with Robert and Aaron (Danny Miller) that first chance she gets after his surgery, she’s making Cain aware.
The day of the surgery is here and Cain and Moira are trying to be strong for each other. It’s a worrying time as Cain is wheeled off, but it’s not long before they get the good news that the op has gone well.
But Cain’s high is short-lived when he notices his catheter and his mind jumps straight to it being a new permanent fixture in his life – a future of incontinence. He’s also peeing blood, which sends his anxiety through the roof.
‘He’s peeing blood. It’s frightening him, because he’s not taken all the information in beforehand at the meetings prior to this,’ actor Jeff Hordley tells Metro.
He spirals and pulls some tricks to avoid being discharged, which disappoints Moira. She calls in the big guns to get his head sorted – Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill). She does the job and Cain agrees to go home, but he’s not himself. He receives a visit from Aaron and Robert and loses his temper at the strange atmosphere he senses. But there’s an atmosphere for a reason.
This is the moment Moira is forced to come clean, spilling to Cain that Robert had her sent away by planting the IDs in her house for the police to find. The red mist hits and Cain’s need for revenge is instant.
Jeff said: ‘He thinks it would be a good idea to go round there, so he takes a hammer, takes Sam and ties Robert up in a chair, just to get information out of him…’ All done with a catheter bag strapped to his leg.
He adds: ‘This guy’s [Robert] made so many mistakes in the past, as far as Cain’s concerned. Already taking the farm in his eyes off him, but then to find out that he was instrumental in Moira going inside, he [Cain] just sees the red mist descend. He finds the strength to go round with a hammer.’ Sounds like things are about to get gnarly.
Robert investigates a noise in the barn and while investigating, he’s knocked unconscious. He wakes up tied to chair and realises Cain is there to make him pay for what he’s done. He has a hammer in hand for persuasion. Will Sam stop Cain from doing something awful?
