The scales fall from Charity’s eyes in Emmerdale over Cain’s shock plan to help Sarah
Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) was not best pleased to be the last one to find out about Sarah Sugden’s (Katie Hill) condition or IVF plans, yet he’s about to do a complete U-turn in Emmerdale.
On the day of Sarah’s big op, Charity (Emma Atkins) chose the moments before she was wheeled to theatre to reveal that she didn’t back Sarah’s baby making plans one bit.
This awful revelation meant Sarah went into her scary op feeling alone and afraid, and left Charity feeling guilty for her poor timing.
She spent the whole of Sarah’s surgery fretting, only for Charity’s wish to come true. Sarah woke to her worst imaginable fear – she’d been given an emergency hysterectomy.
In an instant, her dreams of being a mum were crushed.
As she begins the road to recovery, Sarah is discharged from hospital and heads back to the village, still not having fully processed her loss. The return is confronting as she starts to see the reality of her situation.
Sarah tries to bury her feelings to support Cain as he prepares for Nate’s memorial, pretending that everything is A-OK. But the truth is revealed when no one is looking, and her tears fall.
She refuses to rest despite Charity’s (Emma Atkins) best efforts, preferring instead to keep her mind busy. She heads to the garage and though Cain isn’t happy either that she won’t rest, he’s glad to have something to take his mind off his own problems.
An accident while testing Gabby’s car sees Sarah end up in hospital following her surgery, and as Cain visits, he sees the true extent of her emotional pain. She breaks down as she tells him the accident made her realise just how badly she wanted a family of her own.
Cain is burdened by her revelation and Charity arrives just in time to hear him offer Sarah a solution – he suggests she goes for surrogacy to fulfil her dreams, with his full backing.
Charity is aghast that he’d raise her hopes, but Cain means what he says and vows to find a way to make it happen for Sarah. Is Sarah set for more heartbreak?
