Prince William’s ‘scathing remarks’ about Meghan Markle moments before physical ‘fight’ with Harry
Prince William and brother Harry once reportedly got into a fight over the future king’s comments about Meghan Markle.
In his explosive 2023 memoir Spare, the Duke of Sussex detailed the alleged altercation with his older brother at his Nottingham Cottage home in 2019.
Harry, 40, alleged that the Prince of Wales, 42, had called Meghan “difficult”, “rude” and “abrasive”.
Prince William and Harry’s ‘fight’ over Meghan Markle
In an extract published in The Guardian in 2023, Harry wrote in Spare that William wanted to talk about “the whole rolling catastrophe” of their relationship and struggles with the press.
However, Harry claimed that when William arrived he was already “piping hot”.
The duke alleged that his older brother complained about his wife Meghan, who Harry married in 2018, and he told William he was repeating the press narrative and he expected better.
However, it resulted in the brothers shouting over each other.
Harry wrote that William claimed he was trying to help his younger brother.
The Duke of Sussex wrote: “Are you serious? Help me? Sorry – is that what you call this? Helping me?”
However, that reportedly angered William who swore and stepped towards Harry.
Harry wrote that he went to the kitchen as William followed him. He reportedly gave William a glass of water, and told his brother: “Willy, I can’t speak to you when you’re like this.”
He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor.
Harry continued in his autobiography: “He set down the water, called me another name, then came at me. It all happened so fast. So very fast.
“He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor. I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out.”
How Meghan Markle ‘reacted’ to ‘fight’
Harry said that William urged him to hit back, but he refused. Then, William left but later returned “looking regretful, and apologised”.
According to Harry, William said: “You don’t need to tell Meg about this.”
Harry reportedly replied: “You mean that you attacked me?” to which William said: “I didn’t attack you, Harold.”
Although Harry didn’t immediately tell Meghan, she apparently later noticed “scrapes and bruises” on his back. He then told her.
Harry said Meghan “wasn’t that surprised, and wasn’t all that angry” but she felt “terribly sad”.
William hasn’t publicly commented on Harry’s claims, and the palace declined to comment at the time.
