Prince William and Harry’s uncle Lord Fellowes leaves eye-watering ‘fortune’ in his will
Prince William and Harry’s uncle Lord Robert Fellowes has reportedly left a huge sum of money in his will – but not for his nephews.
Last July it was confirmed that Lord Robert Fellowes had died at the age of 82. He was the uncle of Prince William and Prince Harry. His wife – Lady Jane Fellowes – was Princess Diana’s older sister.
Lord Fellowes married Lady Jane in 1978. He became a trusted aide to the late Queen Elizabeth II. For over 20 years, he served in her private office – nine of which was as her private secretary during turbulent years.
When was Lord Fellowes’ funeral?
But despite the close connection with Prince William and Harry, he left his nephews no money.
Both brothers attended the funeral service last August, held in the small village of Snettisham. But their appearance furthered rift allegations as they reportedly stood “virtually back to back” and didn’t say one word to each other.
Newly released probate records confirm Lord Fellowes left behind an estate worth £1,517,418. A legal cost of £4,000 was then paid, and the rest was given to who he wished.
It appears £1k went to a local hospice and £500 to St Mary’s Church where the memorial took place. Then he gave £5k to his alma mater Eton College and £1k to Andrew Grange – a handyman who worked on his estate near Sandringham.
The rest of his fortune went to his widow, Lady Jane.
William and Harry reunited at the funeral last year. However, at the time, reports claimed they didn’t speak to each other.
Harry and William ‘didn’t speak’ at their uncle’s funeral in 2024
At the time of the memorial service, Reverend Dan Tansley, who led it, spoke about his shock at seeing Prince Harry in attendance.
He told The Sun last year: “It was only as I was greeting congregation on the way out that Prince William was shaking my hand. And then very quickly after, Prince Harry did too. It wasn’t a tremendous shock William was there, as that was always a possibility. But I suppose it was more of a surprise that Harry had come.”
But despite the brothers attending, Reverend Dan can’t remember the brothers even speaking to each other.
He added: “I don’t recollect them speaking to each other, but there were a lot of family members and friends speaking to them. It would have meant a lot to Lord Robert to have them both at the service. I know he and his auntie loved them both very much.”
Why Kate and Meghan didn’t attend the funeral
Prince William and Harry both showed up to the funeral without their wives. At the time, William’s wife Princess Kate was still undergoing cancer treatment, and hadn’t fully began back to work, so this explains why she did not attend with William.
I don’t recollect them speaking to each other, but there were a lot of family members and friends speaking to them.
As for Harry’s wife Meghan Markle, she hasn’t returned to the UK since the late Queen Elizabeth II’s platinum jubilee celebrations in 2022.
Harry recently did a BBC interview where he admitted he doesn’t think he would feel safe bringing his wife and kids back to Britain, as their taxpayer-funded security has been downgraded since they stepped away from royal duties.
