Harry should be glad Meg’s left him to spend Valentine’s alone
The Duke and Duchess will be apart on one of the most romantic days of the year after the mum-of-two jetted back to California on Tuesday.
She had flown out to Vancouver, Canada, on Friday to support her husband across the first four days of the Games.
The couple shocked fans with several loved-up displays and PDA as it appeared they couldn’t keep their hands off each other.
This comes after swirling speculation the Sussexes are leading increasingly separate lives.
From Harry choosing to spend his 40th hiking away from Meg, to more solo work endeavors, the pair sparked fears things are not so rosy.
Royal expert Hugo Vickers, who previously compared the Duchess’ Invictus speech as an “Oscars ceremony” address, shared his thoughts with The Sun.
“I think probably the main reason that she went back was to be with the children, because they obviously take that very seriously, and she had been away for four or five day.
“Secondly, I think it’s very important that Prince Harry should be concentrating on the participants of the Invictus games and supporting them.
“It’s a much better look for the Games to have him there on his own, rather than it being a Meghan Markle Show, which it has been to some extent at the beginning.
“So I think that’s really what it’s about.”
The royal writer said Meghan’s timing coincides with Harry “going off to do things” on his own in recent months.
“In my view, he does that better than when she is around, because when we saw earlier in the week, she sort of took the whole thing over, it became the Meghan Markle show.
“I think that was a pity, because the Invictus games is a fantastic achievement, and it’s a wonderful thing for the participants, and it should really be focused on them.
Mr Vickers added how he believes the couple are “playing to their skills” in an attempt to reinvent their image – away from dragging the Royal Family.
The expert highlighted how the Duke is excellent at engaging with people for royal duties, while Meghan knows how to work the limelight.
“He’s very good with children. He’s very good on what you might call sort of royal duties. He really engages with them, and he looks very happy when he’s doing it,” said the author.
“She is much more, red carpet, the Hollywood type appearances.
“That’s what we saw a little bit of at the beginning of the week, which I thought was rather unattractive.”
Meanwhile, sources closes to the couple insisted the move was pre-planned so that Meghan could be with son Archie, five, and daughter Lilibet, three.
One source said: “This was always planned. Meghan is going home to be with her children.
“Meghan left the games in Dusseldorf early after five days to go home.
“This is Prince Harry’s event and she is there to support him but this was planned.”
Harry is not expected to make any public appearances at the Invictus Games today.
It comes after Meghan shrieked as she tried her hand at tubing on Tuesday.
Despite her husband’s encouragement, the Duchess was heard squealing with fear before racing down the slope.
In a video, Meghan said: “No, no I really don’t want to do this.”
Prince Harry is heard giggling in the background shouting “feet up, feet up, feet up” before the Duchess flew down the slope.
The couple were seen holding hands at the Family and Friends Tubing event.
They had packed on the PDA throughout the opening days of the Invictus Games.
Meghan gave an “impromtu” introduction to Harry during the opening ceremony in which she gushed over the Prince’s parenting skills.
Later, in the stands, the pair were seen conspicuously giggling and smooching.
Royal biographer Ingrid Seward told The Sun that these “interferences” are simply not needed, given it is Harry’s precious event.
She said: “I thought it was unnecessary of Meghan to interfere with what is essentially Harry’s baby. She knows that.
“He really doesn’t need her. When Harry first launched the Invictus Games in London, he was launching it in front of his dad, his stepmum, and his brother.
“He doesn’t need Meghan there to introduce him. I thought it was really wrong and kind of detracted from what he was trying to do.”
She added: “Everything that Meghan does seems to be making everything about her.
“She should have let Harry get on with it himself, instead of interfering.
“She should have said ‘actually, let me step back and you do it’. He doesn’t need it [Meghan’s help]. Harry’s a very good public speaker.”

But Meghan’s flight home comes as a royal expert suggested they are increasingly living “separate lives”.
Speaking on our first ever Royal Exclusive Live show, Arthur Edwards and Jennie Bond lifted the lid on the power couple’s recent time apart.
This comes after it was revealed Harry spent the night of his milestone 40th birthday without Meghan as rumours continue to swirl.
The duke went on a hiking trip with pals to celebrate his big day – and failed to mention his wife, 43, in his birthday thanks message.
Although sources close to the couple insist it was Meghan who organised the lads’ trip, experts warned it could be a key sign things are not so rosy.
