Queen Camilla confesses to unexpected holiday ‘binge’ habit

When it comes to life in the royal spotlight , there’s no shortage of duties to keep the royal family busy with a jam-packed calendar of events taking them all around the country – and indeed the world throughout the year. Yet just like the rest of us, every so often the royals need a chance to step away from their responsibilities and unwind without the pressure of too many engagements.

This year, this is especially true as both King Charles and Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales continue to battle with cancer and wish to make the most of their well earned rest and relaxation amid their gruelling treatments. For the King, his breaks usually involve long leisurely walks, while in the past Kate has expressed a keen interest in activities with her children such as baking – however, Queen Camilla recently confessed to a very different and unexpected holiday preference.

The 77 year old avid reader, recently told the Queen’s Reading Room podcast that her guilty pleasure was actually to “binge read” and it turns out she likes to do it on holiday for one very crucial reason.

“I binge read because I have so little time to read things on most days,” admitted the royal.

With a wry laugh the Queen then went on to explain how she did often try to read, but it never went quite to plan unless she was on holiday. “I try!” She explained. “I’ll read three pages at night and immediately fall asleep and have to re-read them again the next morning!”

“So when I go on holiday, I just load up all the books I want to read and I do literally binge read.”

How many books the Queen takes with her continues to remain a mystery, but as she and her husband enjoy some well deserved rest in Balmoral over the Summer, there’ll be no shortage of time for the book loving royal to sink her teeth into a hefty selection of books from her favourite genres.
