King Charles’ birthday was ‘absolute nightmare’ because of Harry and William

King Charles and his family posed for a series of photos to mark the royal's milestone 70th birthday, but behind the smiles there was plenty of tension and drama, a new book has claimed

Taking family photos can be a complex affair, and it seems the Royal Family is no exception.

A few years ago, to celebrate King Charles’s 70th birthday, an official photo was taken featuring Charles, his wife Camilla, sons William and Harry, daughters-in-law Meghan Markle and Princess Kate, and grandchildren George, Charlotte, and Louis. Despite the seemingly happy and relaxed demeanor of the family in the photo, behind-the-scenes tensions were brewing.

While the public loved the photos, arranging the family shot was reportedly an “absolute nightmare,” according to a book. The explosive biography, Finding Freedom by authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, alleges that the Royal brothers “can be hot and cold with their father”.

This dynamic is further complicated by the fact that Charles is technically their boss.

The authors quote a source who revealed: “The boys can be hot and cold with their father’ disclosed a source, who gave the example of planning the photo session for Charles’ 70th birthday, which they called “an absolute nightmare. Neither William nor Harry made much of an effort to make themselves available” the source said. Two images were released from the family photoshoot, one being a formal snap and the other a candid picture showing the family laughing. The book reveals that money was often a point of contention between Charles and his sons. Charles, who at the time managed the Duchy of Cornwall, had to “control the purse strings” when it came to much of the princes’ spending, including Kate and Meghan’s wardrobes. The authors state: “The brothers sometimes had to vie for additional funds for projects from their father, who also helped to cover expenses related to Camilla and some of those for his sons (including Kate and Meghan’s wardrobes), reports the Mirror.

They actually genuinely have to debate who gets what amount from their father to fund their projects. While Charles may be a father to Harry, he’s also their boss, and that makes their relationship complex for a number of reasons.
