Children up and down the country will be savouring the last few days of the summer holidays before a new school year starts next week – and among them will be Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

The royal trio are due back in class at Lambrook School next week after their summer break and their recent trip to Balmoral to spend time with the rest of their royal relatives. They started at the school in 2022 after the Wales family moved to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor and no doubt hands-on mum, the Princess of Wales, will be making sure they all have the correct uniforms and equipment.

And in previous years, she has been spotted out with the youngsters at the shops, kitting them out with new clothes and shoes. But it appears that one year when Kate previously went to get George and Charlotte fitted for new school footwear, it wasn’t all plain sailing – and she made one common mistake.

In 2018, she was spotted with her two eldest children in tow shopping at the Peter Jones department store in London. And a source told Hello! that Kate forgot to take socks for George and Charlotte to wear when they were trying on their new shoes. The youngsters were wearing their summer sandals when they went to pick out their new shoes. So like many mums before her, Kate had to borrow socks from the store so she could make sure she was buying them in the correct sizes.

Before attending Lambrook, George and Charlotte both attended Thomas’s School in Battersea, with Louis at Wilcocks Nursery School in South Kensington. Their curent school is a day and boarding school for boys and girls aged from three to 13 years. The Wales children are day pupils for now.

There they can enjoy facilities such as the school’s own orchard, woodland, a nine-hole golf course, a 25-metre swimming pool, as well as a cricket pitch. Pupils can even try their hand at polo. However, in just a few short years, George will leave Lambrook – and head to his next school.

Last year, it was revealed that George was taking school exams with Kate not accompanying husband Prince William to the 2023 Earthshot Prize in Singapore in order to support her eldest son. Kensington Palace refused to comment on what exams future king George, 10, was taking. However, the preliminary entrance exams for Eton College, known as ISEBs, did occur at that time as the Earthshot Prize during the first week of November. Several other elite private schools also use the exams.

Last summer, George was spotted visiting Eton, his dad’s former school, where fees cost £46,000 a year. Kate was seen talking to two employees of the famous and historic school while wearing an elegant aquamarine dress and ballet pumps, Hello! reports. William was the first senior royal to go to Eton and was followed by brother Harry who was also educated there between 1998 and 2003.

It is one just a few public schools to have remained boys only, alongside Harrow and Radley, and has educated the likes of George Orwell and Eddie Redmayne. It also counts 20 British Prime Ministers along with its alumni, including Boris Johnson and David Cameron.
