Teen Mom fans are shocked to find out the reality behind Amber Portwood’s relationship with her daughter Leah. Amber’s ex Gary Shirley recently responded to a fan’s comments online, revealing that it has been months since Leah’s mom tried to contact her. Keep reading to see what he shared.
In comments on TikTok, Gary Shirley addressed Amber Portwood’s involvement with Leah. Someone asked, “So, my question is, since the new Gary left her, how often has she seen Leah?”
Gary responded in a humorous way, but the answer was shocking for some. “10 times – 10 times = ?” he replied, meaning Amber hadn’t seen her daughter once in several months.
Her ex-fiance left her about three months ago. So, the Teen Mom star hasn’t seen her daughter in at least that long, if not longer.
A Teen Mom fan account @teenmomfanz shared a screenshot of the communication. Fans commented on Amber’s poor choices and crappy parenting in the comments.
“She wanted to ‘be around’ to show Gary 2.0 she was ‘trying to be a good mom’ not because she REALLY wanted to be a good mom!” one person wrote. They continued, pointing out that she often chooses men over her daughter. The Instagram user also pointed out this is one of the reasons Leah wants her stepmom to adopt her. In fact, she even calls Gary’s wife Kristina Shirley “mommy.”
The Teen Mom fan account weighed in in the comments as well. They wrote, “How pathetic can someone be that they deny signing their rights over to the woman who is ACTUALLY a mom (Kristina) yet you don’t even make the effort to be there for your daughter… Not even for her first day of school!”
Other people commented that they weren’t “shocked” by Amber’s actions. However, many people are surprised that fellow Teen Mom stars Maci Bookout and Catelynn Baltierra (Lowell) haven’t called their “friend” out on her poor behavior when it comes to Leah.
The revelation that Amber isn’t making any attempts to improve her relationship with her daughter comes after a friend stated that the Teen Mom star has no intention of allowing Leah to be adopted.
Gary Shirley recently said that his wife Kristina would adopt Leah in a heartbeat. His daughter has also expressed she would like for her stepmom to officially adopt her.
Amber Portwood has made it clear that won’t be happening while she’s still alive and has something to say about it. At this point, many people are questioning why Amber cares about her daughter being adopted. She isn’t present in Leah’s life and doesn’t seem to be interested in stepping up.
