King Charles reveals what ‘can help’ during cancer treatment

King Charles has made a rare confession about his ongoing cancer treatment while hosting a garden party at Buckingham Palace.

Yesterday (May 14) King Charles and Queen Camilla, 77, hosted the second Buckingham Palace garden party of the year. The event was to celebrate those who were in the education and skills section.

But during the party, Charles found the opportunity to give a rare insight to his cancer treatment. Not much is known about the king’s cancer journey as he keeps it largely private, but Charles found himself opening up to a fellow cancer patient.

King Charles reveals cancer treatment tip

King Charles revealed his cancer diagnosis to the world last year, forcing him to temporarily step away from duties. But he came back quite quickly and has been continuously undergoing treatment, while completing his duties. It is not known what form of cancer Charles has.

Stamford Collis, a 22-year-old international relations student, was an attendee at the party. He has also been diagnosed with cancer.

It’s sometimes about the diet and what you eat. It can help.

After the event, he shared that the king, 76, had asked him about his upcoming treatment, and even gave him some advice from his own personal experience.

Stamford said: “He was asking me about the treatment I have starting in June and spoke to me about food and diet. He also asked me if I had undergone radiation treatment, which I had earlier this year.”

Charles was overheard by guests telling Stamford: “It’s sometimes about the diet and what you eat. It can help.”

That wasn’t the only emotional part of the party for Charles as he met Patricia Alban, who set up Sammy Foundation last year in memory of her son.

Sammy Alban-Stanley, who had Prader-Willi Syndrome and autism, tragically died in 2020 at 13 after falling from a harbour wall in Ramsgate.

Patricia said at the garden party: “I told Sammy ‘one day I will meet the king and tell him about you.’ And here I am. I can’t believe it. He would have been so proud and I feel quite emotional. It does feel like he is there. It has been a dream of mine.”

King Charles’ ‘change’ of diet

While we don’t know much about his cancer journey, it was revealed that King Charles’ diet had changed following his diagnosis.

Before, he was known for skipping lunch as he was usually too busy, with reports claiming he saw it as a “luxury”.

However, following his diagnosis, reports claimed that his wife Queen Camilla was the one to make him change this habit. Now, it appears he eats lunch to ensure he keeps his strength up.

Another source: “With some reluctance, he now has something to eat at lunchtime – a snack, really. He now eats half an avocado to sustain him through the day. It’s important, particularly if you have got an illness.”

Away from lunch, Charles is believed to be a big fan of breakfast. Clarence House’s Instagram page previously shared one of his brunch recipes – cheesy baked eggs.

And for dinner it seems Charles opts for “simple foods” according to Mervyn Wycherley, who worked as a palace chef for 33 years.

He told Royal Exclusive show: “The food is quite simplistic. They love simple foods, but always very good quality, very organic. It’s always been the same, all of the family have an interest in food, especially his Royal Highness.”
