Princess Charlotte was so upset after trying on her bridesmaid dress for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding, it caused Kate Middleton to have a row with the bride.
The alleged row was first reported ahead of the big day. There was already drama surrounding their wedding as Meghan’s father wasn’t attending. The news of the supposed tiaragate also added fuel into the fire.
The bridal party included Princess Charlotte Florence van Cutsem, Rylan and Remi Litt, Ivy Mulroney and Zalie Warren. Prince George acted as a page boy for uncle Harry as well.
Although, Meghan had her eyes on setting the record straight years later with her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey alongside Prince Harry.
Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress caused a row
Prince Harry addressed the alleged row between his wife and sister-in-law Kate over Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress in his bombshell book Spare. Back in 2018, reports claimed that Kate and Meghan had had a disagreement over the dresses and the Princess of Wales was left in tears.
However, during her Oprah interview with Harry in 2021, Meghan Markle claimed she was the one who was left in tears.
Prince Harry wrote in in his memoir that Kate Middleton texted Meghan the week of the wedding about a “problem”.
This problem was reportedly regarding her daughter Princess Charlotte‘s bridesmaid dress. Meghan replied to Kate, telling her to bring Charlotte – now 10 – to the palace for alterations.

Harry said this was “not sufficient” for Kate, who arranged a time for the two to talk. The duke wrote that Kate had told Meghan that Charlotte’s dress was “too big, long and baggy”. In addition, Kate allegedly told Meghan that Charlotte “burst into tears when she tried it on”.
The book claimed Kate wanted all the bridesmaid dresses to be remade – just four days before the nuptials. However, in the end, Kate agreed to visit the tailor with Charlotte, Harry explained.
Harry also said in the book he later found Meghan in tears “on the floor” following the disagreement.
Meghan’s tailor speaks out over the row
It’s believed Meghan and Kate’s long-standing feud began over the row.
A royal tailor who worked on the wedding, gave their verdict on the incident in 2023.
Luxury suit and dressmaker Ajay Mirpuri admitted he wasn’t ‘surprised’ the bridesmaid dress argument resulted in tears from Princess Charlotte.
He explained a team of six dressmakers worked tirelessly when they found out none of the six dresses fitted the girls. He understood “why anybody would be upset”at the ordeal ahead of televised royal wedding.
The tailor said: “If anything happened in the background, it didn’t happen in front of me.
“But yes, weddings are stressful at the best of times and especially one at this high level; you’ve got to respect that. They were faced with a problem like anyone gets at a wedding, with last-minute hitches.
“I can understand why anybody would be upset if the dresses weren’t fitting it’s nerve-wracking. I feel for them all, because you wouldn’t want the children to go out on a big stage in an ill-fitting dress and that’s what they were.
“All six bridesmaids’ dresses had to be fixed, and we did it. I’m a royalist and I wanted to do whatever I could with my small business to serve the royal family.”
Kate apologised to the Duchess of Sussex
While sitting down with Oprah Winfrey for her tell-all interview in 2021, Meghan set the record straight.
She said: “It was a really hard week of the wedding, and she was upset about something.
“But she owned it, and she apologised, and she brought me flowers and a note apologising and she did what I would do if I knew that I hurt someone.”
