Christmas Tension: Will King Charles’ Advent Dinner Challenge William and Kate?
King Charles’ (76) annual Advent dinner is considered an important gathering for the royal family. Traditionally, the event brings together around 70 family members and provides a rare opportunity to meet before the main Christmas celebration at Sandringham.
This year, the Advent dinner will not be held at Windsor Castle as usual but has been moved to Buckingham Palace in central London. This change may affect the attendance of Prince William (42) and Princess Kate (42), as they may have already headed to their traditional country retreat, Anmer Hall in Norfolk. During the school holidays, they can enjoy relaxing days here with their family. It is the absolute heart of the Wales family: where Kate and her loved ones have had the opportunity to unwind in recent weeks and where their three children can do exactly what they want, well shielded and protected.
King Charles and Queen Camilla (77) hosted the first private family dinner in December 2022 after the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September at the age of 96. The gathering marked the revival of a tradition that had been canceled two years prior due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to hellomagazin.com, moving the event to Buckingham Palace seems to be a good choice, as the Queen also had a tradition of hosting dinners there. The Queen would typically welcome over 50 family members for lunch in London, about a week before her trip to Sandringham in Norfolk for Christmas.
Charles is now returning to his roots but is expanding the guest list. Expected attendees include the Duke (60) and Duchess of Edinburgh (59), Princess Royal (Anne, 74), Mike (46) and Zara Tindall (43), and Princess Beatrice (36) and Eugenie (34) with their families. The late Queen Elizabeth II’s cousins, including the Duke of Kent (89), the Duke (80), and the Duchess of Gloucester (78), will also participate in the celebration.
The Advent dinner provides a valuable opportunity for royal family members who cannot attend the main celebrations at Sandringham. Discreet attendance is also expected from the Duke of York (Andrew, 64), who is encouraged to appear more cautiously due to recent controversies.
The presence of Prince William and Princess Kate at this event is significant as they have regularly attended Christmas dinners in previous years. Their participation is considered symbolically important as they represent the future generation of the royal family. As is almost customary, Prince Harry (40) and his wife Meghan Markle (43) are expected not to attend Sandringham or the family dinner.
