Emmerdale twist as Cain and Ruby secret is uncovered by unexpected character
This article contains discussion of child sexual abuse which some readers may wish to avoid.
Emmerdale’s Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly) was left reeling when Anthony (Nicholas Day) overheard a conversation between her and Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) in which they spoke about their passion.
Ruby and Cain, as viewers know, had sex in the garage a number of weeks ago while Moira (Natalie J Robb) was undergoing an operation to remove a brain tumour.
Cain was wracked with guilt over his betrayal, as was Ruby, who knew how badly Caleb Miligan (William Ash) would react if he were to find out that she cheated on him with his beloved brother.
The past few weeks have been an emotional rollercoaster for Ruby as she struggled to process Anthony’s return to her life.
The reason behind her struggle to let her father into her life was revealed during Thursday’s (December 12) edition of the ITV soap, with flashback scenes confirming that Anthony sexually abused her when she was a child.
Ruby has kept her ordeal to herself and, in a bid to keep daughter Steph (Georgia Jay) in her life, she agreed to allow Anthony to stay in the village.
Anthony was brought along to Cain’s 50th birthday party to meet the Dingles and, despite her initial hesitation, Ruby attended the celebration too.
Anthony, however, picked up on the tension between her and Cain and he later overheard a conversation in which they discussed their passion.
Ruby was horrified to learn that he knew the truth as he will no doubt use such information to his advantage to ensure she doesn’t reveal what really happened on her 16th birthday.
The question is: will he keep quiet about what he knows?
Cain has only just managed to win Moira over following his behaviour this week so such a revelation would no doubt destroy her.
Caleb would similarly struggle to process such a thing but Ruby’s mind will no doubt be elsewhere given that her ordeal has come back to her thoughts in the wake of Anthony’s return.
