Prince Harry given stern two-word warning by Donald Trump over visa row

Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, has lived in the US since 2020

Prince Harry could be in hot water with the new US president if it is discovered that he lied on his US visa about taking drugs.

The Duke of Sussex, 40, has been living in Montecito, California, with his wife Meghan Markle since the pair stepped back from their role as senior royals in 2020.

While Meghan, 43, is a US citizen and as such would not have needed a visa to return home to the states, Harry would have had to apply for a visa from the government in order to enter the country.

However questions have been raised about whether the prince was honest in his visa application following Harry’s revelations in his 2023 autobiography Spare that he took drugs in his youth.

A standard ESTA form filled out by thousands of people travelling to the US from the UK each year carries the question: “Have you ever violated any law related to possessing, using, or distributing illegal drugs?”

Other types of visas also ask similar questions about an applicant’s past. While this is usually cross-referenced against the applicant’s criminal record, Harry’s public admittance that he used drugs could prove problematic for him if it turns out he told US visa officials that he had not used drugs on his application.

Now right-wing Washington think tank the Heritage Foundation is calling for Donald Trump to release Harry’s visa. Nile Gardiner of The Heritage Foundation said on News Nation: “We will be calling on the Trump administration to release Harry’s application records, the Biden administration refused to do that.

“He should be held to account. I do hope that the new Trump presidency will release Harry’s application records for the American people to see for themselves what exactly is in them records.”

While this has yet to happen, the Express reports concerns are rising for the prince as President-elect Donald Trump made it clear that if the prince did lie to gain residency in the country, he would take “appropriate action” against him.

Trump is not believed to be a fan of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, resulting in mounting concerns over what this could mean for the future.
