It’s being reported that Emmerdale’s Daisy Campbell is set to leave the ITV soap after 13 years.

The young actress has played Amelia Spencer since 2011. Amelia is mum to a young girl called Esther and last year, she lost her dad Dan (Liam Fox) to prison after he punched a stalker called Lloyd, with the injuries he sustained leading to his death.

Currently, Amelia is in a relationship with an abusive man called Tom King (James Chase), who is also the ex-husband of Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper).

Daisy, who is 21, has spoken about her departure from the ITV soap, admitting the thought of leaving felt ‘daunting’, given she has grown up on the show.

‘It wasn’t my choice to leave Emmerdale and it was a shock at first’, she explained to the Mirror.

‘Being in Emmerdale is all I have ever known. I’ve spent the whole of my childhood growing up in the soap and it felt daunting.’

‘Once they explained, I totally got it’, she said.

‘Amelia isn’t part of the Dingles, her dad has left, Samson has gone now and she doesn’t have any family. There is nowhere to take Amelia and I understand that. I feel incredibly lucky to have been in the soap for 13 years and to have been handed so many opportunities at such a young age.’

Daisy was eight years old when she joined the show. In May of this year, she was told by Emmerdale bosses that Amelia’s final scenes in the village would air just before Christmas.

The star only told close friends Rosie Bentham, Jack Downham and Katie Hill initially.

‘They were upset for me but so supportive. I didn’t tell the rest of the cast my news initially as I wanted the time to process everything. I needed time to grieve the part of Amelia’, Daisy said.

‘I had worried so much about how I was going to tell people I was going and now I know I shouldn’t have! They were all brilliant..’

The star also admitted she is glad Emmerdale decided the future of her character, rather than debate over whether or not she should quit.

With Daisy going on to confirm she’s ‘pleased the door is being left open’ for her character, it certainly begs the question as to how Amelia will depart.

The actress teased that her departure will be connected to Tom, who Amelia has been in a relationship with over the past few weeks.

‘He gets annoyed with Amelia and it’s a turning point for her. Could Amelia be the second Belle in terms of Tom’s nastiness? Everyone will have to wait to see’, she said.

‘It is great the soap is raising awareness about how women need to be believed. It’s been nice for me to get my teeth into such an important story.’
