Key difference on Prince Louis’ birth certificate from Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s

Pretty much everything about the Royal Family is heavily scrutinised – and that even means from birth.

Whilst Prince William knows all too well what growing up in the spotlight means, Princess Kate enjoyed a much more normal middle-class upbringing, and both parents have been keen to protect their three children – Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six – and ensure that they enjoy as much privacy as possible. Even the birth certificates of the royal children are pored over when they have safely arrived, and one key difference between Prince Louis’ birth certificate and that of his two elder siblings was quickly spotted after his birth in 2018.

Born Prince Louis Arthur Charles of Cambridge on April 23, 2018 – only weeks before his uncle Prince Harry married Meghan – the youngest child of William and Kate entire birth certificate was produced differently from his older siblings. As reported in Town and Country magazine, Louis’ birth certificate was typed up on a computer, whereas both Prince George’s and Princess Charlotte’s were written out by hand.

The magazine noted the same deputy registrar had registered the birth of George in 2013 and Charlotte two years later in 2015, but it was a different member of staff who registered Louis. “Prince Louis’ is signed by a different deputy registrar, so it appears that it’s just a simple matter of preference by the person who holds the job at the time whether to type it out or write it up by hand, or perhaps protocols have changed within the registrar’s office over the past few years,” the report explained.

All three of William and Kate’s children were born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London – the same place where William’s late mother Princess Diana had given birth. Kate took part in the traditional Lindo Wing photocall shortly after the birth of all three of her children, giving the public a quick glimpse of the new royal babies.

Speaking on the Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast back in 2020, Kate admitted that she had found the photocall in front of a large number of photographers and press “slightly terrifying” when she had to do it for the first time. However, she explained that she understood how excited the public was to share in the exciting moment, “We’re hugely grateful for the support that the public has shown us, and actually for us to be able to share that joy and appreciation with the public,” Kate said, “I felt was really important. But equally, it was coupled with a newborn baby and inexperienced parents… so there were all sorts of mixed emotions.”
