Florida mom shared eerie last photo before being ‘stabbed to death by son, 17,’ a year after teen fatally shot dad
Catherine Griffith, 39, was found with a knife wound on her neck after her 17-year-old son Colin called the cops.
Police arrived to discover Colin, covered in blood, standing in front of the family’s home in Auburndale, Florida, around 40 miles northeast of Tampa.
In her final Instagram post, made the day before her death, Catherine shared a picture of a footbridge leading into a forest.
She captioned it with a quote from Taylor Swift’s 2020 song ‘it’s time to go,’ writing: “That old familiar body ache, the snaps from the same little breaks in your soul. You know when it’s time to go… Sometimes, givin’ up is the strong thing.”
Colin Griffith told cops his mom had “fallen on his knife” after reportedly stabbing her twice in the neck on Sunday, September 8.
Neighbors reported seeing the teenager dragging his mom out of the house by her hair at around 4.30 pm.
Two hours later, he called the police.
Police revealed Griffith shot and killed his dad Charles in a separate incident last year.
The teenager was charged with first-degree murder following the death of his father in the shooting in Oklahoma.
His mother paid $50,000 to bail him out of jail, and prosecutors later dropped the charges after they couldn’t rule out self-defense.
Catherine’s Instagram shows a number of pictures of her with her son in happier times, including one post from May 5 of him with a new car.
She captioned the post: “Happy early graduation present!!! Congratulations Collin on your brand new 2024 VW Jetta!!! I love you and am so proud of you!!!”
Photos from Fourth of July this year show the smiling pair in Washington DC, watching the fireworks on the National Mall and touring the White House.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd described Griffith as a “psychopath.”
She told a news conference: “He didn’t say [he] killed her, just said [she’s] bleeding from the neck.
“So our 9-1-1 operators appropriately were giving him instructions on how to do life-saving techniques.”
Sheriff Judd added that when deputies arrived, a “calm, cool, collected,” Griffith met them outside covered in blood.
“What we found was this knife,” the sheriff said. “This knife is 12 inches long. And of the 12 inches, eight inches of that is the blade.
“So he’s saying that his mother fell on this knife. We started our investigation at this point.”
Griffith has been charged with first-degree murder over his mom’s death and will be tried as an adult, Judd said.
“When I look at him, I see a psychopath,” he said. “He’s violent, he’s dangerous. He showed zero remorse.”
