Kate Middleton faced ‘cutting comment’ from late Queen after wedding gift revamp
When Kate Middleton married Prince William, the late Queen gave them a very generous wedding gift - the country mansion of Anmer Hall but according to a royal author, she wasn't too keen on one aspect of its renovation, which was overseen by Kate
With the school holidays in full swing, it’s likely the Prince and Princess of Wales will be spending some time at their country retreat.
One of the couple’s three homes is Anmer Hall on the Sandringham estate and it’s where they can enjoy outdoor pursuits with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. It was given to Prince William and Kate as a wedding present from the late Queen and they started using the property after a £1.5million refurbishment that was completed in 2015.
Mum-of-three Kate was said to have spearheaded the renovations, with one of the stand-out rooms being the huge open-plan kitchen. However, according to royal author and expert Sally Bedell Smith, it turns out the former monarch was not so keen on the revamped kitchen – and made her feelings known when visiting the property.
Ms Bedell Smith, the writer behind the book Elizabeth the Queen: The Life of a Modern Monarch, told PEOPLE magazine: “I remember when they had just finished renovating Anmer Hall, and they invited the Queen over for lunch. They have one of those big kitchens with eating areas, and she said, ‘I can’t understand why everybody spends their time in the kitchen’.” Over the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend last year, royal fans got a sneak glimpse at William and Kate’s kitchen. Kate was pictured baking with her children ahead of a street party. However, it’s not known if the images were taken at Anmer Hall or Kensington Palace, the royals’ London pad.
However, William and Kate have fans a glimpse inside their London home in a sneak peek video filmed during the Coronation weekend. In a slick YouTube video featuring behind-the-scenes footage of them and their children, they provided a sneak peek inside their cosy-looking palace home. It shows William, Kate, Charlotte and Louis appearing in what appears to be a living room after getting ready on the morning of the big day. And the clip shows that the room is like many others across the country – as it is filled with family photos and mementoes.
