Royal couple who don’t even have titles dubbed ‘glue’ holding family together
Zara Tindall and her husband Mike are seen as key figures for the younger generation of the Royal Family, due to their unique position as relatives who are not working Royals
A key Royal couple who do not even have titles have been dubbed the “glue” holding the family together.
Mike and Zara Tindall are thought to have become key players in the Royal Family due to their unique blending of Royal duties with a more modern, down-to-earth image. Zara, a daughter to Princess Anne and grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II, has established herself as an important figure through her achievements both within and outside of royalty. The duo share a close relationship with the Prince and Princess of Wales, along with King Charles and Queen Camilla.
As told by a Royal insider to The Times, Mike, 45, and Zara, 43, function as the “glue of their generation of royals”. They added: “They can help take the family’s mind off the gravity of what is going on.”
The source also added: “While some family members can be very ‘royal’, Mike is just himself and is relaxed and playful with George, Charlotte, and Louis. It helps that they all have children around the same age that they can fool around together privately and bring a sense of normality to what is a stressful situation for everyone involved.”

Parents to three youngsters, Mia, Lena, and Lucas, who are around the same age as the Wales’s’ kiddies, Zara and Mike frequently enjoy quality time together. Being born only 13 months apart, Zara was reportedly a great comfort to Prince William following the tragic death of his mother Diana in 1997.
Despite not being a working Royal and facing less media scrutiny than Prince William and Prince Harry, the Royal cousins appear to have a tight-knit relationship.
Princess Anne’s daughter, Zara, didn’t receive a Royal title in her youth as her mother turned down the offer from Queen Elizabeth II. The Princess Royal wanted both Zara and her brother Peter Phillips to live lives free from the constraints of their Royal lineage.

In the Channel 5 documentary, ‘Zara and Anne: Like Mother Like Daughter’, Victoria Arbiter remarked: “For William in particular, trust is everything so when you’ve got a cousin that understands what it is to be a member of the Royal Family, but they don’t have the same pressures associated with it, they can be a tower of strength and support.”
“It’s Zara’s loyalty and total dedication to her family that has made her such an asset to the cousins who have had to endure the negative side of royal life.”
Mike Tindall and Prince William might seem like an odd pair, but they are often seen sharing a joke at Royal events and occasionally hug when they meet in public. The duo have been spotted looking friendly at various public engagements, with the ex-England rugby union player even cheering on the Royal at previous polo matches.

Zara Tindall, the Queen’s granddaughter, has been spotted sharing a heartwarming moment with her uncle, King Charles, who has been bravely battling cancer since the start of the year. The pair were seen in a tender embrace when the King made a surprise appearance at the Royal Windsor Horse Show on May 3, with Zara clearly overjoyed to see him at the Berkshire event.
Body language expert Judi James couldn’t help but comment on their touching rapport, describing it as one of the “sweetest and most uncomplicated” relationships within the Royal Family.
In a chat with Express.co.uk, Judi James remarked: “Unlike many of the people in the King’s life, Zara seems to treat her uncle with unfiltered fondness and he seems to respond in kind.”
